DSM018: Anile - Last March EP

Anile – Last March EP

A. Disaffected
B. Last March
C. Seeking You ft. Synth Sense & Rose (Digital Only)
D. Replicant ft. Dakosa (Digital Only)

Anile, DSM’s baby-faced assassin, steps up to deliver the second artist EP on the label, and one of the most talked about releases of the second half of 2010. Climbing steadily through the ranks with releases on Loxy’s Cylon imprint and the seminal Renegade Hardware label, DSM is proud to have one of the brightest production talents currently operating in drum & bass on its roster. This EP takes DSM further into the darker territory it started exploring with DSM014 & 016 and it does not disappoint.

Kicking things off is the ferocious ‘Disaffected’. Eeerie pads and atmospheres make way for a driving drum loop and sub bass before all hell breaks loose at the drop with one of the nastiest, most twisted reese basslines heard for a very long time. The influence of labels such as the aforementioned Renegade Hardware is obvious, and it is one of, if not the, most ferocious and devastating slice of d&b ever to grace DSM. The flip, the title track of the EP, is the bouncy stepper ‘Last March’. Another snarling, distorted bassline has meant that this tune has found favour with numerous a-listers in recent times and is a worthy tune for the EP to be named after.

For every ying there must be a yang, and the achingly beautiful ‘Seeking You’, produced in collaboration with new comers Synth Sense, and featuring the vocal talents of Rose, is just that. This is electric soul at its very finest and goes to prove that Anile is adept at creating beauty as he is all out war on the dance floor. Proceedings are rounded off with another collberation with more new comers in the shape of Dakosa. The most deep and rolling of the 4 tracks, this tune is all about the second drop where things start to get a bit nasty. You have been warned....
